Who
STKD WRLD is made by one person. The website is stkdwrld.com, the app runs at stkdwrld.app, and the same app is on Google Play. Everything below applies to all three.
What stays on your phone
Your progress (XP, streak, learned words, tricky words, favourites, settings), the language you learn and the language you read in, any book you add in My Book, and a random device ID the app makes for itself. All of it lives in your browser's storage on your own device. Profile, Reset progress wipes it; so does clearing the site's data or uninstalling.
What is sent to our server, and why
- Feature counts. When you use a feature, the app sends its name and your device ID so we can count what is used and keep the daily limits fair. The server keeps counts per day and the device IDs seen that day. No names, no email, no location.
- AI teacher. What you type or say to the teacher goes to our server and on to Anthropic, whose model writes the reply. We do not store the conversation; we count messages per device per day. If you ask about a book you added, the pages you ask about travel with the question.
- Look-ups and camera scans. The word you type, or the photo you take of a sign or menu, is sent to Google (Gemini) to be translated. We keep neither the text nor the photo.
- Voices. The text of a phrase is sent to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech, and the audio for that phrase is cached on our server so the next person does not wait. The cache holds phrases, not who asked.
- Suggest a better translation. The word, your suggestion, your note and your device ID go into a review queue.
- Speed. Three numbers the browser measures about how fast the app loaded, kept as sums and counts across everyone, never per visit.
- Play together. Your nickname, emoji and answers are held in the server's memory for as long as the room exists, then gone.
- Creator programme. If you apply, we store what you put in the form: name, email, handle, platform, country, message. If someone arrives through a creator's link, we store a hashed version of their IP address, browser type, referring page, landing page and country code, so the creator gets credit. The IP address itself is not stored.
The optional account
You can create an account to keep your progress across devices. We store your email, a hash of your password (never the password), and your progress. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your email address and nothing else. Nobody needs an account to learn.
Deleting it: in the app, open Profile, find the account card and tap Delete my account. The account and the progress stored with it are removed at once. Progress on your phone stays. If you cannot reach the app, message us (below) from the email on the account and we delete it for you.
YouTube
The Watch tab shows videos as YouTube embeds. When you play one, YouTube's own privacy policy applies to that player.
Cookies
None for learners. The only cookies on this domain belong to the creator dashboard and the owner's statistics page, and only the person logged in to those gets one.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell data and we do not share it for advertising. The only third parties that see anything are the processors named above, each for the one job named: Anthropic for the teacher's replies, Google for translation, camera scans, voices and Google sign-in, YouTube for the videos.
Children
STKD WRLD is made for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and an account is never required.
Security
Everything travels over HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed. Daily limits are counted per device so that no single device can run up the bill.
